History Lessons for Misanthropes

Feb 19, 2019

In this episode, we discuss the story of Alexander Augusta.  A free-born African-American who just wanted to be a doctor in Antebellum America.  He and his wife, Mary, moved to Canada to try to escape the racist attitudes south of the border, to varying degrees of success.  He returned to American to lend his medical skills to the Civil War.

We discuss the hurdles he faced in life and his career.
